Affiliate disclosure

Links from this site to GetYourGuide are affiliate links. If you book through one, GetYourGuide pays this site a commission out of what you already paid them. You pay no more than you would booking any other way: no surcharge, no markup, nothing to enter. That is the whole arrangement, and it does not change what is written here.

What is and is not an affiliate link

Every link from this site to GetYourGuide carries a partner identifier, and so does every booking panel and every clickable photograph in the gallery on the homepage. Links from one page here to another page here earn nothing. There are no other outbound links on this site at all, so there is nothing else that could be paid for.

This site is not the operator

I run no walks. I employ no guides. I hold no bookings and I cancel none. The walks described here belong to the companies that run them, and your contract is with GetYourGuide and with that company. If a date disappears, a meeting point moves or a guide is ill, I find out the same way you do.

That is also why the operator is not named anywhere on this site, with one exception. Thomas Dambo is named, because the six wooden giants are his work and his name is the reason to go and see them. The six forgotten giants.

Prices

This site does not set prices, does not see prices and does not publish them. There is not a single figure anywhere here for what anything costs, in any language, in any format. Amounts move, the site is published in several languages, and a stale number is worse than no number at all.

What can honestly be described is the shape of the decision: whether a guide is included, whether transport and a meal are included, whether a walk is self-guided and started on your own clock, whether a minimum party size applies. That is what shapes the price, and the booking panel on each page shows the live figure from GetYourGuide, which is the only place it belongs.

Ratings

The ratings and review counts shown on this site are the live GetYourGuide figures from the listings. They are not scores I award and not numbers I can move. They were noted at the last reading, they change, and the booking panels show the current ones.

They are also reported with their sample sizes attached, which is the part that matters. A 5.0 from 138 reviews and a 5.0 from 14 are not the same statement, and a 4.5 from two reviews is barely a statement at all. The reviews hub ranks all six walks by how much is actually known about them, and two of the six have no reviews whatsoever — which their pages say in the first line.

What the commission does not buy

Why affiliate links at all

Because the alternatives are worse. Advertising would fill these pages with things I did not choose. A paywall on a visitor guide would be absurd. Sponsorship would put somebody with an interest in the room while I write about their own walk. A commission on a booking you were going to make anyway, from a company I otherwise have no dealings with, is the least compromising arrangement I have found. If it stops being that, this page will say so.

Bookings and problems

I sell nothing and hold nothing. Your confirmation comes from GetYourGuide, and changes, cancellations and refunds go through them. If something goes wrong, their support is the only place that can act on it. Do tell me as well, through the contact page, because it belongs in the review.

We are an independent guide, not a tour operator. Booking links go to GetYourGuide and are affiliate links — if you book through them we may earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you. See our affiliate disclosure.
